Kai-Uwe Schmidt mit Hall-Medaille ausgezeichnet
Kai-Uwe Schmidt, currently Professor for Discrete Mathematics at Paderborn University, was awarded the Hall Medal 2018 of the Institute of Combinatorics and its Applications (ICA). Kai-Uwe Schmidt was a Postdoc at the Magdeburg Discrete Mathematics Group from 2012 to 2015. During his stay he habilitated in 2014 at the OVGU Mathematics Department.
The Hall Medal is one of four medals awarded by the ICA. It is awarded to recognize outstanding achievements by scientists who are not over the age of 40. In 2010, Kai-Uwe Schmidt was already awarded the Kirkman Medal for outstanding junior researches who are within four years past their Ph. D.
Kai-Uwe Schmidt received his medal recently during the Fq14 conference in Vancouver. It was handed to him by Prof. Dr. Alexander Pott, who had nothing but praise for the work of his former employee.
Dr. Shuxing Li awarded the Kirkman Medal
Dr. Shuxing Li, currently a Humboldt fellow at the Discrete Mathematics group, was awarded the Kirkman Medal 2018 of the Institutes of Combinatorics and its Applications (ICA). The Kirkman Medal is one of four medals awarded by the ICA, it is awarded to recognize outstanding achievements by scientists who are within four years past their their Ph. D.
Shuxing received his medal recently during the CanaDAM conference in Vancouver. It was handed to him by Prof. Doug Stinson, president of the ICA. The laudation:
Dr. Shuxing Li has made significant contributions on a numberof central problems in algebraic coding theory, discrete geometry, combinatorial design theory, and information theory. He applies deep theory and powerful tools to answer fundamental questions, not only in combinatorics but also in practical digital communications applications such as coding, compressed sensing, and energy minimization. The excellence of his PhD thesis was recognized by prizes from Zhejiang University and from Zhejiang Province. He has published more than twenty papers in prestigious mathematics and electrical engineering journals, conducting a remarkable breadth of research. His nominators conclude that Dr. Li is “very original, passionate, and hard-working,” and that “the depth and breadth of Shuxing’s work are very impressive.” (source and all medal winners)
Four talks during Fq14 conference in Vancouver
The four members of the Discrete Mathematics Groupt Prof. Dr. Alexander Pott, Dr. Shuxing Li, Daniel Gerike and Christian Kaspers visited The 14th International Conference on Finite Fields and their Applications (Fq14) from June 3-7, 2019 in Vancouver, Canada. They gave the following talks:
Alexander Pott | Homogeneous cubic bent functions |
Shuxing Li | Formal duality in finite abelian groups |
Daniel Gerike | On the cycle structure of permutation polynomials of shape xt + γ Tr(xk) |
Christian Kaspers | Solving isomorphism problems about 2-designs from different families in Galois rings and finite fields |
Abstracts for these talks can be found in the book of abstracts of this conference.
Talk by Alexandr Polujan in Rostock
On May 15, 2019, Alexandr Polujan gave a talk at the Mathematisches Forschungskolloquium of the Institute of Mathematics of the University of Rostock. He was invited by Prof. Dr. Gohar Kyureghyan to talk about Homogeneous Cubic Bent Functions: From Known Examples to New Constructions (Abstract).
Two talks at WCC 2019
Prof. Dr. Alexander Pott, Daniel Gerike und Alexandr Polujan besuchten vom 31. März bis zum 5. April 2019 den Workshop The Eleventh Workshop on Coding and Cryptography (WCC) in Saint-Jacut-de-la-Mer, Frankreich. Alexandr Polujan trug über Homogeneous cubic bent functions without affine derivatives outside the completed Maiorana-McFarland class vor und Daniel Gerike hielt einen Vortrag mit dem Titel Permutations on Fqn with Invariant CycleStructure on Certain Lines.
